Piloting a community-based approach to ecosystems conservation in Uzbekistan

The goal of this project is to test innovative Site Action Plans (SAPs) mechanism as the first community-based solution to damaging land management in Uzbekistan in order to address the issue of the long-term biodiversity conservation on unprotected Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs).
This project plans to carry out two hands-on conservation actions on potential KBAs representing main Uzbek ecosystems; the methodology then will be rolled out across other IBAs in Uzbekistan. To this end, over 12 sq. km of two project sites with high biodiversity value and threats will get a community supported sustainable management system.
In May 2017, a month after the project started, we received an update, with the following sign that will be posted on site:
