Establishing biosecurity program to protect the Critically Endangered Ricord’s Iguana and other native species on Cabritos Island, Lake Enriquillo, Dominican Republic

2017
by Jorge Brocca, Sociedad OrnitolĂ³gica de la Hispaniola (SOH Conservacion)

The goal of our proposed project is to sustain conservation actions taken over the last four years to protect the threatened native species (including the IUCN Critically Endangered [CR] Ricord’s Iguana, and three Vulnerable species) and their habitat on Cabritos Island.

Our objective is to establish a viable biosecurity program that will prevent non-native species from being introduced to the island. This project is a partnership of local and international nonprofits, government agencies, and local island users.
